Born in 1932, Rolf Heide studied interior design at the Muthesius Werkschule in Kiel. In 1960 he set up in business with his own studio in Hamburg. As well as contributing regularly to home and lifestyle magazines, he collaborated closely with industrial companies noted for their commitment to good design.
Rolf Heide has produced designs for exhibition stands, showrooms furniture, carpets, lighting fittings, etc., as well as designing photoshoots for advertising campaigns and catalogues.
In 1972 he won the German Design Council Prize for his work, followed by exhibitions of his work in 1994 at the International Design Centre (IDZ) in Berlin and the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Hamburg. In the autumn of 1996 a profile - Designermonografie 6 - Rolf Heide - was published by Form Verlag. In 1999 Rolf Heide received the Karl Schneider Prize for Applied Art and Design, awarded by the City of Hamburg.
In 2000 an exhibition of his drawings was held at the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Hamburg and a detailed appraisal of his work - Rolf Heide - Designer - Architekt - Querdenker - was published in the same year. Since 2001 Rolf Heide has been principally active in the field of design development and consultancy.
