Mirko van den Winkel, born in the Netherlands in 1963, completed his business management studies at the University of Groningen in 1988 and developed his thesis for an Italian ceramics firm, Marazzi Ceramiche in Sassuolo.
Following his MBA, Mirko van den Winkel worked as a business consultant for BARTELS in 1989, and for AD REM from 1990 to 1992. In addition he gave a series of lectures on strategic and international marketing at the University of Groningen in 1992.
In 1992 he embarked on his business career in Italy, starting out at TEAM and moving two years later to the Italian company Moroso spa as their export manager und head of sales, marketing and "young" design.
Moroso was established in 1952 by Agostino Moroso, who remains the managing director to this day. Specializing in sofas, armchairs and other furniture, the company has evolved to become one of the major European brands.
For more than 50 years the company's collections have been designed by leading designers such as Ron Arad, Carlo Colombo, Enrico Franzolini, Marc Newson, Toshiyuki Kita and Patricia Urquiola. Over the years Moroso has earned a well-deserved reputation for the high quality of its products.
