The Trumpf Group emphasises with the opening of the new marketing and service centre its innovation force and engagement at the location Ditzingen which is the headquarters rich in tradition of the company. In an open office world which continuously extends over nine plains which are displaced against each other, now all marketing fields of activity are consolidated. Information and display areas in the ground floor of the new building offer new possibilities for the customer care.
Once more Trumpf has not "only" provided space for the expanding business areas but also consciously invested into ambitious and identity giving architecture. This belongs to the basic principles of the corporate culture, to create working atmosphere through aesthetic, in all clarity designed spaces - in the office areas to promote communication and efficiency, in the production to support quality and precision. The marketing and service centre is after the laser factory which was recently decorated with the Hugo-Häring-Price and the logistic centre the third new building which was realised under this premise in Ditzingen by the Berlin Office Barkow Leibinger Architects.
As another clear indication the office block along the motorway marks the location of the company. In interaction with existing buildings of the seventies it composes a new space situation for the reception of visitors and customers. Over several spacious steps the way develops up to the main entrance. The channels which were built for the drainage of the forecourt are provided with stainless steel coverings. Into the surface of these coverings important stages of the company development of Trumpf were lasered.
In the base area of the new building three crystalline bodies contain one lobby, one auditorium and display areas. In the entrance area a panelling characterises the atmosphere which square profiles of stainless steel were also machined with the newest Trumpf technology - a "Tubematic"- laser cutting facility. In the first part of the lobby a media board of flat screens informs about the company and its business areas. After this introduction the visitor reaches the second part of the lobby, in which changing exhibitions present a special main focus of the company. In the first year after the opening and under the title "the laser in the automobile industry" it will be shown how the laser developed through high productivity and economic efficiency to an indispensable tool in the production of automobiles.
The auditorium which is equipped with two booths for interpreters and modern media technology offers space for up to 200 visitors. The cooling ceiling is boarded with anthracite grey lacquered steel sheets which were bent and lasered by Trumpf machines. In the structure similar to relief, also elements for optimising the room acoustics are integrated as well as the lighting, loudspeakers, microphones and a camera for videotaping or conferences.
Above the base two half-timbered buildings are rising which are deferred against each other in height and longitudinal direction. A split-level-system which continuously extends from the first to the fifth floor - thus a sequence of respectively halfstorey displaced levels - creates a horizontal and vertical connected office area. The common separation in the conventional storey construction between the single floors are avoided by this. Different from a separate staircase, the elegant connecting paths between the levels here naturally belong to the office space. They build up glance contacts, turn into meeting places. As furthermore doors, partitions and other "communication barriers" are reduced to a minimum, floating areas are the result which can variously and team oriented be used. So today the department chiefs are sitting without a separate office between their staff members. Only the area manager has a room which is separated by glass partitions. Furthermore there are lockable retraction rooms which can be used for confidential conferences or intensive single work.
The innovative office world creates the perfect conditions for the realisation of new working methods. To this belongs the described reduction of command structures as well as a "slenderised" office work - following the so called "lean production". An analysis which was carried out in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institut before the removal into the new building has shown that the work flow at the single working places could clearly be optimised. So it turned out that for example only half of the current files are really needed directly at the working place. These and further cognitions were directly incorporated into the office furniture concept which was realised together with Vitra.
To the particularities of the trend-setting new building also belongs its efficient and resource saving energy and climate concept which was developed in collaboration with the renowned engineering office Transsolar in Stuttgart, Germany. A comfortable natural lighting and ventilation, an effective cooling system in the summer with concrete core activation as well as an intelligent control of the exhaust air with heat recovery which is activated in winter, are central components of a literally "comfortable working atmosphere". The concise double facade has several duties: As a thermal buffer area it reduces the thermal losses and therefore saves energy; even if in the interior level windows will be opened, it guarantees a maximum noise protection with regard to the motorway; in its "intermediate zone" lamellae hangings which are protected against wind, can every time be used as sun protection. Finally the vitreous casing shows the permeability and openness of the inner organisation outwards and gives the building especially at night a memorable look.
